Message from Dawn to all Notts clubs:

I would like to introduce myself, as the new Safeguarding and EDI Lead for Nottinghamshire County Netball. My name is Dawn Wigley and you may know me from Bingham Netball Club as both a coach and Safeguarding officer. My other experience in the field of Safeguarding and Inclusion was as a teacher (for over 20 years) and later as a Head Teacher at a Nottinghamshire Special School for over 10 years.

The role requires me to be the first point of contact within the county for Safeguarding and EDI queries, liaising with England Netball as appropriate. This role is primarily an advisory/ providing information role.

I will be attending the Governance and Finance Committee meetings.

As a Safeguarding officer for my own club, I appreciate what that role is about and how important it is to keep in touch with the latest information, training, and regulations. I would like to work closely with the Safeguarding leads in our clubs and potentially set up a support network, if that is what the clubs want.
 
The East Midlands Regional Management Board EDI and Safeguarding committee are certainly prioritising training in this area. On 21st April they held a free conference called Hidden Disabilities. It focused on:

• Intro to Mental Health & Safeguarding – delivered by Dannii Donovan /Dickon Turner (EN)
• LGBTQ+ Diversity – delivered by Ebony Harding– you will find useful information /learning how to use the pronouns/ some understanding of the key terms and why it is important to use these to ensure inclusivity of everyone. They are very much hoping to deliver more of these events and I will keep you all updated.
